Fashion Paper Dolls

I'm pretty sure the secret to owning lots of couture gowns…is buying them in paper! Who said anything about wearing them?
Ok, but in all seriousness, I've got fashion on my mind. I wanted share some fashion art with you all, and today, it comes in the form of paper dolls!
A brief background: Fashion illustrator turned paper doll artist Tom Tierney has built an exquisite portfolio of paper doll booklets over the years since creating his first—a Christmas present for his mother—in 1975. His designs range from storybook characters to First Ladies to current events and more.
Many of his books, however, are devoted entirely to a single style, designer or fashion house. His most recent couture book pays tribute to Alexander McQueen.
But these couture dolls don’t just depict fashion; they’re fashionable in their own right. How darling are the books and how pretty are the designs? Here are some that particularly caught my eye:
I don’t know if it’s from seeing so many incredible costumes on Halloween, or if the upcoming holidays (read: toys) are on my mind, but these dolls made me really happy. I also love how Mr. Tierney describes his work in his bio on his site:
"I feel that the most important thing about my paper doll books is that I am using the medium of the paper doll as an art form. To me, paper dolls can be more than just some 'cutsie' bit of fluff to be thrown at the children to perpetuate boredom. They can be artistic, vital, and alive and can tell us much about people, the clothes they wore, the way they lived and something of the times in which they lived…I also thoroughly enjoy doing all the other sorts of illustration that I am involved in. The greater the variety, the less opportunity for stagnation to set in!"
I can really appreciate what he means about changing up your medium; it’s always fun to explore different forms of art and fashion, and it keeps your style fresh!
